CONSCIOUS CYCLING

Conscious Cycling, Menstrual Health Program
Hey You! It looks like you are interested in learning all about your menstrual cycle (signs, symptoms and everything in between) and your monthly hormone rhythmicity that makes it all happen. You are also looking for a naturopathic approach to your health and wellness goals, an approach that will be tailored to your unique sexual and reproductive health needs! Great, I've got you covered. The female body truly is a miraculous thing, and I am pretty obsessed with it, lucky for you I have made this my clinical focus and life passion.

First - did you know that the menstrual cycle is a women's fifth vital sign? A vital sign is defined as a measurement taken to help assess the general physical health of a person, give clues to possible diseases, and show progress toward recovery. A vital sign is reflective of the health of a system or systems and is a direct representation of the overall health picture of an individual. For women, the menstrual cycle is a window into the health of her endocrine system
, specifically her hormone health. When disease arrises (thyroid, pituitary gland, gut etc.) her menstrual cycle will suffer. She may see longer or shorter cycles, painful periods, PMS, development of fibroids or endometriosis to name a few. When a women is on a hormonal contraceptive her hormone state is altered as is her menstrual cycle. She cannot observe or interpret signs or symptoms of dis-ease as her body is unable to communicate this fifth vital sign. The power of the knowledge a menstrual cycle can offer a women is profound. Systemic health concerns such as food sensitivities, allergies, gut dysbiosis, prolactinoma, and hyper/hypothyroidism can all be reflected and identified in a women's menstrual cycle. Furthermore, the use of her chart in collaboration with conventional and speciality lab testing can offer a reliable monitoring tool reflecting the day-to-day state of her menstrual cycle and association body systems. Pretty neat stuff don't you think?!

Perhaps, you don't have any specific health concerns (menstrual cycle, or other) but you are curious about this 'menstrual cycle' you get, and want to know how exactly it is impacting your everyday self! You might be looking for a baseline or barometer as it relates to the current status of your menstrual, hormonal and reproductive health. What should you consider for your overall health and wellness regime as your sexual and reproductive health goals change with time (e.g. contraception preparation or cancer prevention). Maybe you don't have anyone to really talk to about this stuff (trust, you aren't alone), and you are looking for some reliable information from a qualified healthcare professional about birth control options, or alternate sex practices.

Like most women I see, you may not have a clue if the symptoms you experience during your menstrual flow are normal. For instance, clots how big before you should be concerned, pain (dysmenorrhea) to what degree is okay, heavy bleeding (menorrhagia) when is it too much? Do you have healthy cycle parameters (E.g. how many days before a cycle is considered too long)?

Maybe you experience one, a few, or all of these more systemic symptoms throughout certain times of your menstrual cycle, and you want to know why they are happening and how you can treat the root cause of each, rather than masking the symptom with short-term solutions.
  • mood disturbances (low mood, depression, anxiety)
  • reduced sex drive
  • acne premenstrual, preovulation, or throughout your entire cycle
  • poor digestion (bloating, food cravings)
  • weight gain
  • low energy
  • poor sleep (quality, quantity)

Maybe you are simply desiring a more authentic and empowered relationship with your feminine side and are seeking a healthcare practitioner that shares a mutual vision for woman-centered healthcare and the divine of the feminine vitality.

I can speak from personal experience that getting to know your body in this way is life changing. Conscious cycling, and reproductive wellness naturally...it is a beautiful thing.
