About Katelin |
|

Welcome, so glad you found me. I am Katelin Parkinson, Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and Women's Health & Wellness Consultant. Although born and raised in Canada, I have been living in the United States for the past several years, first in the beautiful South and now in the welcoming Midwest State of Indiana!
I was thirteen when I saw my first ND. My mother took me to one in our community, and it opened my eyes to root-cause wellness, the fact that there are effective and evidence-based alternatives to healthcare besides conventional medicine, and that the body truly does have an innate wisdom and healing power within. From my early teens through high-school and into my graduate studies, I relied on naturopathic medicine to support my body during the ebbs and flows of my life.
I received my honors bachelor of science in biology with a minor in chemistry and completed several years of research cumulating in a graduate thesis in environmental toxicology. I was thrilled to learn that the most clinically rigorous, scientifically driven, and evidence based naturopathic medical program was just a short distance away in Toronto, Canada. Fast forward and just ten years after my first Naturopathic visit; I was completing my second year of my four-year Doctorate of Naturopathy program from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. After graduating and passing my board exams, I began my career as a ND within an award winning multidisciplinary health clinic in Toronto, Canada.
Being a ND is not just a career for me, it is my way of life. I embody the principles of naturopathic medicine and practice what I preach on a daily basis. I am also a realist, and can relate to the obstacles of everyday life that can interfere with one's health and wellness. I understand the importance of balance and work with my clients to find health solutions that will become lifelong habits rather than short-term solutions. I offer care that is as unique and individualized as the clients I work with. I offer natural and holistic alternatives, and co-support strategies to conventional medicine. I offer health education and foster informed and empowered decision making. I believe the future of healthcare is multidisciplinary, and feel it is essential to collaborate with other healthcare professionals enabling a broad spectrum wellness team for each client I work with. Best of all, as a ND I am able to spend ample time during visits with my clients, truly getting to know their health history and wellness goals. I believe the foundation to success is a trusting, open, empathetic client-doctor relationship. You are the ultimate driving force behind your health and wellness journey and I am the fortunate catalyst behind the transformation.

Women's Health
I am trained to and capable of seeing children, men and women with a variety of health concerns but my greatest passion lies in helping women to feel empowered by and in love with their bodies. My clinical focus in women's health is born from my personal struggles with my reproductive health and menstrual cycle. I understand what it feels like to not feel in control of your body, to feel like you are given few options aside from conventional treatments and to feel like you are never being heard when it comes to your health concerns.
I feel best when surrounded by the tribe of strong, independent and flourishing women in my life. My heart breaks when I work with women who feel disconnected, uninspired and lost within themselves. I am here for you. As a woman, I am acutely aware of the fact that the state of our endocrine and reproductive health is paramount to our overall wellbeing. As a ND I do not see the body as separate systems but rather as a whole, so regardless of your health concerns (sleep, mood, painful periods or digestion), I will always approach your care from a whole-body perspective taking into account the health of your hormone and reproductive system first. This approach can be a new concept for many of the clients I work with, as often our menstrual cycles and reproductive health in general are not taken into consideration when assessing the totality of our system.
Seeking specialized training in: Holistic Reproductive Health & Fertility Awareness
In my second year at Naturopathic College I attended a presentation by a certified Holistic Reproductive Healthcare Practitioner (HRHP) from the Justisse College, about the use of fertility awareness method's as a natural, hormone-free form of birth control. As a budding medical student, I was ecstatic about the information I had heard, and became obsessed with the world of reproductive endocrinology, fertility awareness and body literacy. At the time of this presentation, I had recently stopped my hormonal birth control pill, and had already been charting my menstrual cycle for just over a year. Like many women, I had felt inspired to do so with the help from Toni Wechler’s Taking Charge of your Fertility, Christiane Northrup's Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom, and my Naturopathic Doctor at the time. Although I was not aware then, I was just one year into what would be years of an emotionally and physically challenging road to re-establish my hormone and menstrual cycle health after discontinuing the birth control pill.
Fast forward into my ND practice...I was working with many women addressing a variety of hormonal, menstrual cycle and reproductive health concerns. In working with these women I was astonished at the lack of understanding they had of their own bodies. I was reminded daily of the importance of reproductive health and that a women's menstrual cycle truly is her fifth vital sign. Clinically, taking into account the state of a women's menstrual cycle and hormone health always offered me a more complete picture of her wellness state. These years later, I was still charting my menstrual cycle and had never forgot the presentation I saw from the HRHP.
It was never my intent to go back to school, the plan was to graduate as a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (check), and start a successful clinical practice (check) but; I believe that in life things happen for a reason, and that your life purpose may be chosen for you as much as you decide to choose it. As a ND I had all the knowledge and tools I thought I would have needed to heal myself, but it was not until I learnt how to observe and chart my menstrual cycle that I felt I had all the pieces to the puzzle. And so, in order to deepen my knowledge of reproductive health and to learn how to use a women's menstrual cycle as a diagnostic tool and treatment strategy, I enrolled in the Justisse HRHP certification program. After a two-year program including clinical internship, I graduated in 2018 as a certified ND-HRHP.
The lifelong skill of menstrual cycle charting has forever impacted the way I look at my own reproductive and whole body health, and likewise, has forever changed how I approach and support the health of the women I care for.

She received her Doctorate of Naturopathy from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto, Canada, which is one of seven accredited naturopathic medical schools in North America. A licensed naturopathic doctor (ND) must attend a four-year, graduate-level naturopathic medical school and is educated in all of the same basic sciences as an MD, but also studies holistic and alternative approaches to therapy with a strong emphasis on disease prevention and optimizing wellness. In addition to a standard medical curriculum, a ND also studies clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, psychology, and counseling making them an expert in the field of alternative and holistic medicine.
